So What Is It?
The NSU Big Sib/Lil Sib Program as well as the Family Program was formed to help underclassmen transition to life at UCSD. Each underclassman or transfer student will be paired up with a Big Sib, who will be their mentor throughout the year and hopefully throughout the year. The program organizes all the sibs together into several different families. Each Lil Sib will be able to form perpetual friendships with their Big Sib, while at the same time, gain knowledge of life at UCSD.
What’s a Family?
A family is one of four groups in NSU – every member in the club is split into one. The goal of the families is to make NSU a little more closer, familiar and comfortable for every member – we still do things as a club, but there are times when we stick with family and those that you know better and bond with more. The goal is to create a more friendly environment – especially to those new to NSU.T here are many fun social activities NSU does with families. BBQs, sports competitions, Broomball, Iron Chef Cook-Off, gift exchanges, and many study breaks, are just some of the many family events NSU has planned for the year. So if you’re interested in being part of this wonderful opportunity, which we encourage all NSU members to do, then come out to one of our General Body Meetings, or contact one of the officers. You won’t regret it!
Why Do I Need A Big Sib?
Your Big Sib was once a freshman as well and has tips and advice to help ease your way through college. Knowing upperclassmen can help make adjusting to life at UCSD much easier. Wondering what classes to take, or what professors to avoid? Where to eat off-campus or what parties to go to? Need homework help? Ask your Big Sib. Not only do they have tips and advice, but they’ll also take you out to lunches and dinners, introduce you to other upperclassmen (which comprises three-quarters of the student body), take you to the local supermarkets or drug stores, or just hang out with you.
